By-election voters can check status via SMS

Kuala Terengganu voters who go to the ballot boxes for the Jan 17 by-election can check their status by sending an SMS.

This service will be available beginning Sunday till voting day, and each SMS would be charged 35 sen, said Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Ngah Senik.

The latest service is available through a collaboration between the EC, the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) and the Prime Minister’s Department.

“We want to make it easy for our voters to check their electoral status and we are confident this will be a hit among them,” he said in a statement.

To find out their status, Kuala Terengganu by-election voters need to key in “SPRM” and send it to 15888.

They will receive information regarding the name of their voting station, their voting channel and their serial number in the voters’ registration book.

Ngah said voters can also check their status at the EC website at www.spr.gov.my or by contacting the state commission office at (609) 622-1218 from 8am till midnight every day till Jan 17.

He said the voters’ registration list gazetted on Dec 5 had 80,229 voters, including 1,035 postal voters.
